J class 611 . Norfolk and Western Railroad . Watercolor . 12" x 16"

... J class 4-8-4 locomotives were designed and built by the Norfolk and Western Railway's East End Shops in Roanoke, Virginia between
1941 and 1950. The last three, numbers 611 through 613, were streamlined. Look at this machine... it's a 109 foot long bullet. These engines
were designed specifically for high speed passenger service and reached speeds over 110 mph, while pulling a full train of 15 cars. Engine #611
is usually based at the Virginia Museum of Transportation. On May 30th, 2014... #611 entered into a meticulous restoration at Norfolk Southern's
Spencer Shops in North Carolina and is returned to full excursion operation on May 30, 2015.
This watercolor was painted for a Bella Terra Maps publication.

A Giclee Print is available of this watercolor painting / railroad art.
