Louisbourg Point Lighthouse . Cape Breton Island . Nova Scotia . Canada . Watercolor . 12" x 16"
... the Louisbourg Point Lighthouse on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, is the third light at this site. The original... a stone tower built in 1734
and the first lighthouse in Canada... was destroyed in 1758, during the last siege of the Louisbourg Fortress, located across the cove. The ruins
of that foundation remain and are visible next to this current lighthouse. The second construction had been an elaborate wooden structure,
which included a light keeper's house... and stood until it burned to the ground in 1922. Foundation remnants of the second facility also remain.
