Point Amour Lighthouse . Red Bay . Labrador . Canada . Watercolor . 9" x 12"

... following several years of extensive site preparation and construction, the 109 foot tall, limestone Point Amour light tower, attached wooden keeper's house and attendant service buildings, were completed in 1857. The Amour Light sits on the Labrador side of the narrow Strait of Belle-Isle, which connects the Gulf of St. Lawrence with the Atlantic Ocean. The Point Amour Lighthouse, designed by Charles Francois-Xavier Baby, is now a Provincial Historic Site and the keeper's house is a museum.

We drove across Labrador, heading East, from Labrador City, through Church Hill Falls, Happy Valley, Goose Bay... up to Cartwright and then down and back to the coast again... South to Blanc-Sablon and on to a ferry over into Newfoundland, in July of 2012. I wanted to see and run the all gravel Trans-Labrador Highway before it gets paved. Wow. What a country. It is really remote and quiet through there.
