Covehead Harbour Lighthouse . Queen’s County . Prince Edward Island . Canada . Watercolor . 9" x 12"

... the roughly 27-foot tall, Covehead light is a square, tapered tower that replaced a pair of range lights, dating to 1879 and then replaced again in 1917, that were nothing more than two lanterns hung on masts... to mark an entry into Covehead Harbour on the North central coast of Prince Edward Island. The current, wooden clad, tower is not particularly old, being the 2nd tower of this same design, on this site... built in either 1967 or 1975... I'm not really sure. The Covehead Harbour Lighthouse was registered as a Canadian Heritage Site in 2015. There is a plaque affixed above the door to commemorate an 1851 gale... a heavy storm event that lasted 4 days and claimed 74 ships lost and 150 lives departed... off shore and along the coastline. I passed through this area on the fringe of Hurricane Michael in 2016. The day did not look anything like this during my visit. It can get nasty.
