ARDC Midget

Acrylic on Canvas… “ARDC Midget at Grand View Speedway 1959”. Kurtis Kraft midget race car with a 110 cubic inch, fuel injected Offenhauser engine. This is short, dirt track racing before the advent of wings, full roll cages, full face helmets, fuel cells and a host of safety related specifications and regulations. I helped a friend build and race a midget with the ARDC (American Racing Drivers Club) in the early to mid Seventies. We had cages but no wings. Experiencing the sound and intense fury of these minimalist, little machines going as fast as they can, sideways around a steep, dirt bowl in places like Wall Stadium in New Jersey… or semi-flat tracks like Grandview & Hatfied in Pennsylvania…
