Watercolor… when this octagonal, 1882 cast iron, screw-pile lighthouse was built and installed in 1883 at the mouth of the Patuxent River in Maryland… it stood out in about 10-feet of water. But the constantly shifting shoreline left it high and dry by 1970. In 1978 the entire structure was removed from it’s original location in the Chesapeake Bay, moved 2 miles up the Patuxent and mounted on a pier at the Calvert Marine Museum.
