Watercolor… this compact, two story, lighthouse at Gilbert’s Cove, Nova Scotia, on St. Mary’s Bay was built in 1904. Basically a square foot-print with a kitchen wing, it sits a little over 36-feet high at the midpoint of a centered lantern room. It’s seventh order, dioptric illumination was extinguished in 1975 and replaced by an automated beacon farther out on Gilbert’s Point… that I could not find. The lighthouse itself, was abandoned and neglected until 1982, then restored by the local historical society and eventually declared a Provincial Heritage Site in 1990.
