Watercolor… located on the Highlands of Truro… out on the land hook of Massachusetts… jutting out into the North Atlantic Ocean. Highland Light is the tallest and oldest lighthouse on Cape Cod and has remained in operation since 1797. The original wooden tower was built 500 feet from the cliff edge and replaced by a brick structure in 1831. The second, current brick tower and attendant buildings were built in 1857. Eventually, the cliff eroded to within 100 feet of the tower and in 1996 the lighthouse and facilities were moved west, another 450 feet.
