Watercolor… the Louisbourg Point Lighthouse on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, is the third light at this site. The original… a stone tower built in 1734 and the first lighthouse in both Canada and North America… was destroyed in 1758, during the last siege of the Louisbourg Fortress, located across the cove. The ruins of that light’s foundation remain and are visible next to this current lighthouse. There was also a second construction that had been an elaborate wooden structure, including a light keeper’s house… and stood until it burned to the ground in 1922. Foundation remnants of the second facility also remain.
