Watercolor… Sandy Hook Light in New Jersey, is the oldest working lighthouse in the United States. It was designed by Isaac Conro and built in 1764, about five hundred feet inland of the northern most tip of a sandy, hook shaped peninsula that juts out into the Atlantic’s inlet to Staten Island. However, over the past 250 years or so, sea currents have pushed and piled enough sand and soil around the bend, so that the light is now nearly a mile and a half from the shore line. This watercolor painting is from our 2012 road trip along the length of the Jersey coast.
