Watercolor… William B. Savacool opened his flour and feed store in 1880, in the village of Bridgetown (AKA Benjamin), next to Pleasant Spring Creek along Benjamin Road, which is now known as South Main Street in South Perkasie, Pennsylvania. Over the years, operations at the mill passed through various members of the Savacool family. The majority of the mill’s expansion occurred between the boom years of 1904 and 1929. At some point, the Savacool Mill carried the Pratt Food line of animal feeds, and Pioneer branding was observed present in 1987. The Pioneer Hi-Bred Corn Company, founded in Nebraska in 1926, established their iconic trapezoidal logo in 1964. I believe H. B. Shelly owned the mill at some period, but I can’t date that. Presently the facility is owned by the Richland Feed Company, which is aligned with Purina products.
