Tioga Central Wellsboro

Watercolor… Wellsboro & Corning Railroad SD40-2 #309. The Tioga Central Railroad (TIOC) is a scenic railroad running excursions with a six coach diner train between Wellsboro and Lake Hamond, Pennsylvania. Push-Pull power is supplied by the Wellsboro & Corning (WCOR) with a pair of EMD SD40-2, turbocharged, V16 diesel-electric locomotives, each producing 3,000 horsepower. These are former Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway (QNSL) units, rebuilt at the Ateliers Montreal Facilities in 1994. The WCOR has four of these 6 axle units: numbers 301, 302, 307 & 309 and three of the SD40-3: numbered 3323, 3343 & 3346. When not pulling Tioga Central excursions, the WCOR hauls covered hopper trains of sand, tank cars of water, and local freight between Wellsboro, Pennsylvania and Corning, New York. We rode the Sunday diner excursion and had a delicious meal northbound… then moved to an open air car for the ride back.
